  • See you there soon, see you online now!

Those who will attend the conference are probably packing now, or may be already there. The WIFS’12 organisation team wishes them a safe trip and is looking forward to welcoming them in Tenerife!

If you want to share your experience of anything related to the conference, the main communication channel (plain text, no encryption, no noise, full wiretap) will be twitter using the hashtag #WIFS12 .

Since you might spend at least few couple of hours in airports, it’s also one good way to entertain yourself and your colleagues.

  • WIFS weekly news #36: Car/Cab/Shuttle-Pool: Coordinate your travel at Tenerife

    Posted on by admin

If you want to save money or just decrease your carbon footprint, you can coordinate your travel to/from WIFS through the following table. If you are looking for a shared cab to the conference, or sharing a shuttle back to the airport, just fill in (updated below every 5 mn) to check in on the list and allow others to see your request.

Note also that shuttle companies leaving from Tenerife North airport such as this one offer reduced prices if the number of  customers is enough (>=4).

  • WIFS weekly news #34: Your to-do list and to-bring list

Because in one week you will be probably packing your suitcase, it’s now time to give you some advices on what you need to bring in Tenerife and what you can do before or after the conference.

We ask José-Manuel , the WIFS conference secretary, and here are his precious advices:

    - “Bringing a swimsuit is  mandatory, the last week people were without t-shirt on the streets :) ; Seawater is probably a little bit cold, because the Atlantic is in general colder than the Mediterranean sea or the Pacific Ocean, but temperature outside water  will be 25 degrees Celsius, so do not forget sun lotion.

    - “In the workshop hotel the swimming pool is heated. Nevertheless, a jacket is convenient at evenings”.

    - “ In the mountains or for the social event, winter clothes are needed, and perhaps pills preventing car sickness for those suffering with mountains roads”

    - “Yes, all kind of clothes must be taken: winter, summer, … but this is the land of microclimates, and we suffer the same every time in the year :)

    - “Ah, of course, do not forget a photo camera, the landscapes are really varied, ideal for amateur photographers.”

Now regarding things to do, you can of course scan the previous post of this blog to find the activity you would like to do (hiking the Teide or plain hiking, hunting the dragon tree, visiting the Anaga country park, visiting La Gomera island, rock climbing, discovering the Canarian fauna  or just laying on the sand), and here are José Manuel’s last tips:

    - “All kind of sea sports can be done: windsurf, surf, snorkeling, diving,…, so you may consider to put your snorkeling gear in your suitcase”

    - “The best form to visit the island is renting a car. You can do a complete round in one day excursion.”

    -  ”You can even visit the closest island: La Gomera, in another one day excursion. The ferry leaves from a 5 minutes port every day. You can see the buildings in La Gomera from our hotel.”

    - ” There are many boats to watch wales and dolphins. And in beaches there are many water activities. Bermuda shorts are mandatory :) .”

Thank you José-Manuel, and see you there, very soon!

  • WIFS weekly news #31: The high season is approaching

Between the winter months of December and January, accommodation in Tenerife can easily become fully booked, which means that if you haven’t booked your hotel yet, you should do it asap.

Note that the conference organizing committee succeeded in having interesting offers (ranging from 50€ to 170€). The rates in the conference hotel, a five star resort, are particularly interesting (170€ instead of 210€, or 110€ for one occupant).

You can have access to the accommodation page and download the accommodation form directly from here. Hurry up, the deadline for the booking is also approaching (November 26).

  • WIFS weekly news #27: The program in one picture

    Posted on by publicity_chair

You have probably already noticed that the technical program is available here: composed of 4 tutorials, 3 keynotes speeches, 5 oral sessions and 2 poster sessions. If however you didn’t take time to what it is going to be about, here is a picture that will sum-up pretty well the main topics of WIFS’12.

One image is worth a thousand words, and thousand words can be present in one image.

  • WIFS weekly news #24: back to the Lab … with 48 papers announced

    Posted on by publicity_chair

After a long reviewing process this summer involving 610 reviews, 48 papers have been selected for the conference to meet the 30% usual acceptance ratio of previous WIFS editions. Thanks to the reviewers’ effort, we were able to send the notifications one week ahead of schedule.

With this very low acceptance ratio, only the crème de la crème of the submitted papers have been selected and now the conference program is nearly ready, with 4 tutorials, 3 keynotes speakers, 5 oral sessions and 2 posters sessions. Add to this the visit of the observatory and the banquet in the banana plantation, and you obtain a dream conference in Information Forensics and Security.

The registration is now open here and note that the early bird registration deadline is October 22nd. There are also very interesting accommodation rates in absolutely great hotels using the form that can be downloaded here.

  • WIFS weekly news #20: 160 papers submitted!

    Posted on by publicity_chair

The all-time record of submissions to WIFS has been broken, with 160 complete papers submitted. The organizing committee would like to thank all the authors who worked so much, even during the week-end, to submit their research work to the conference.

If you are one of these authors, you deserve a well-earned rest, and now wait until September 4th, for the notification of acceptance. Of course, we encourage you to stay tuned and learn about the latest news from WIFS by checking the websites, the RSS feeds or the social networks.

Number of submissions during the last week. If you know people that think that researchers do not work during weekends, show them this plot.

  • WIFS weekly news #17: An extra week to write great papers

    Posted on by publicity_chair

Dear author, your latex file is created, the title is set, but you have the feeling that one extra week would be nice in order to polish the paper, to run simulations on 1000 images instead of 100, or just to take time to enjoy the Euro championship.

Don’t bother anymore, we have decided to postpone the submission deadline to the first of July.

Note however, that there will be no extra extension, neither for WIFS, nor for the Euro final ;)

Submit your paper and reach the summit!
